FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
$50,000.00 GIFTED TO COMMUNITY GROUPS
Forbes Services Memorial Club helps Community Groups prosper
A total of twenty six (26) community groups have shared in receiving Club Grants from Forbes Services Memorial Club in 2014/15 totalling in excess of $50,000.00. These Club Grants will assist in running of their respective organisations and to help them prosper.
The latest chunk of funding totalling $30,000 will be presented to the recipients on Monday 28th September 2015 at 10.30am. Members of the Club and general public are invited to attend.
In addition to these Club Grants, the Club has also supported numerous community groups with sponsorships and In-Kind donations, including free room hire for not-for-profit community group meetings. We estimate these sponsorships and In-Kind donations to be in the tens of thousands.
In the past yen years the Club has given in excess of $426,000.00 to community groups and sporting associations.
Among the beneficiaries for 2015 is the Forbes Public School, receiving ten (10) iPads valued in excess of $5,000. The iPads will be used to deliver the Forbes Services Memorial Club iPad Connected Learning Program to assist primary school students with special needs. Tracey Pecenka, Assistant Principal of Forbes Primary School and class Teacher of the iPad Connected Learning Program said “we are extremely grateful to the Forbes Services Memorial Club for supporting our students with special needs. The Club’s generosity will greatly benefit our student’s academic needs and will continue to do so for many years to come.”
Another important beneficiary this year is the Forbes CanAssist Branch. The Club Grant of $3,000 will go towards providing support to country cancer patients from Forbes and surrounding districts with travel and accommodation expenses. Kerry Dunstan, President of the Forbes CanAssist Branch said “it can easily cost a country family affected by cancer up to five times more than a city family just to access treatment”. Mr Dunstan went onto say “the reality is that many country mums and dads simply can’t afford treatment, let alone the weeks spent away from their family and work”.
The Club also choose to support the Forbes North Public School “Good Start Breakfast Club” with a ClubGrant of $3,000.
Research shows that breakfast provides children with energy and essential nutrients, including iron, calcium and vitamins B and C, which are necessary for growth, development and good health.
A spokesperson for Forbes North Public School said that “children who have breakfast are able to concentrate better and have a longer attention span, helping them to learn and study better. They also perform better physically after eating breakfast as there is more energy available to their muscles and can improve behaviour and mood.
President of Forbes Services Memorial Club Wayne Richards said, “We think this financial support is not just a gift to the recipients, but also to the whole community”. Mr. Richards went onto say “all Club Grants are aimed at helping as many local community groups as possible”.
Other recipients for 2014/15 are: Forbes Golfers Association, Forbes Youth Advisory Committee, Forbes Running & Triathlon Club, Forbes Basketball Association, Forbes Rodeo, Forbes Historical Society, Forbes Croquet Club, Rotary Club of Forbes, Forbes Torchbearers for Legacy, Lachlan Legacy, Red Bend Junior League, NSW Small Wine Makers, Bedgerebong Picnic Races, Forbes Country Music Club, Lachlan Valley Equestrian Club, Forbes CanAssist, Forbes Relay for Life, Lachlan Valley Community Radio, Forbes Sportsperson of the Year, Forbes Widow Support Group, Forbes Rugby Union Club, Sculpture Forbes, Forbes Camel Races, Forbes Jockey Club and Forbes Diggers Harness Racing Club.
